Manitoba GST & RST Calculator

Manitoba charges a 7% Retail Sales Tax (RST) on top of the 5% federal GST — 12% combined. The calculator shows the GST and RST separately, as they appear on a Manitoba invoice.

How sales tax works here

Manitoba calls its provincial sales tax RST (Retail Sales Tax) rather than PST, but it works the same way: it's separate from the federal GST, administered by the province, with its own rules and exemptions. Manitoba isn't an HST province, so you charge and track the 5% GST and 7% RST as two taxes.

GST registration generally kicks in once taxable sales pass $30,000; RST follows Manitoba's own rules. Some goods and services are exempt from one tax, the other, or both, so a real invoice can differ from a flat 12%.

FAQ

Mostly just the name. Manitoba's Retail Sales Tax (RST) is its provincial sales tax — the equivalent of PST in BC or Saskatchewan. It's separate from the federal GST and has its own rules.

Yes — GST with the CRA and RST with Manitoba Finance, each filed on its own schedule.

Switch the calculator to "Take GST/HST out of a total" and enter the tax-included amount. It divides by one plus the combined rate to find the price before tax, then shows the tax on top.
