FAQ
Most people need their SIN, last year's Notice of Assessment, and their income slips — usually a T4 for employment. From there it depends: self-employment, rental, investments, tuition, and dependants each add their own slips and receipts. The checklist above builds the list for your situation.
Many slips (T4, T5, T3 and more) are filed with the CRA, so we can often pull them from your CRA account with your authorization. It's better to file complete than to guess — missing income can trigger a reassessment later.
The CRA generally asks you to keep your records for six years from the end of the tax year they relate to, in case of a review. Keep the originals or clear digital copies.
