FAQ
Keep daycare purchases identifiable and document how shared costs were allocated. A single mixed grocery receipt without notes is much harder to support later. The CRA provides specific guidance on expenses for daycare in your home.
Some home costs may be partly business-related, but the calculation depends on the space used and the time it is used for daycare. Exclusive-use and shared-use spaces are not always treated the same way. Review the CRA’s home daycare expense rules before calculating the share.
Track each source separately and keep the agreement, remittance statement, and bank deposit. Separating program funding from parent fees makes reconciliations and year-end review clearer. The tax treatment should be checked against the terms of the specific program.
It depends on the actual relationship, including control, tools, financial risk, and independence. Calling someone a contractor does not settle the question. Use the CRA’s employee or self-employed factors and review the arrangement before payments begin.
