How income tax works here

Alberta added a new 8% bracket on roughly the first $60,000 of income, and the province has no provincial sales tax β€” only the 5% federal GST. That makes Alberta one of the lower-tax provinces for many earners.

This tool adds federal and Alberta tax and applies the basic personal amount. For standard T4 employment, it also estimates the employee share of CPP/CPP2 and EI. Other income, deductions and personal credits aren't included.

These are the provincial rates applied on top of federal tax. The calculator above combines both, plus the basic personal amount.

FAQ

No. Alberta has no PST β€” you only deal with the 5% federal GST. This tool estimates income tax, which is separate.

No β€” it's a quick estimate of federal and provincial income tax. Your actual return can include credits, deductions and other income that change the result.

2025 is the year most people are filing now; 2026 helps you plan ahead. The federal lowest rate is 14.5% for 2025 and 14% for 2026, so the numbers differ slightly.

Yes. The calculator treats the amount as T4 employment and includes the employee share of CPP/CPP2 and EI. Self-employed income needs a different calculation.
