How income tax works here

Ontario is a bit more complex than most provinces: on higher incomes it adds a surtax on top of the provincial tax, and it charges a separate Ontario Health Premium. This calculator includes both, so the estimate reflects them.

The tool combines federal and Ontario tax and applies the basic personal amount. For standard T4 employment, it also estimates the employee share of CPP/CPP2 and EI. Other income, deductions and personal credits aren't included.

Provincial income tax brackets β€” Ontario

These are the provincial rates applied on top of federal tax. The calculator above combines both, plus the basic personal amount.

FAQ

Yes. Both the Ontario surtax (on higher provincial tax) and the Ontario Health Premium are built into this estimate.

No β€” it's a quick estimate of federal and provincial income tax. Your actual return can include credits, deductions and other income that change the result.

2025 is the year most people are filing now; 2026 helps you plan ahead. The federal lowest rate is 14.5% for 2025 and 14% for 2026, so the numbers differ slightly.

Yes. The calculator treats the amount as T4 employment and includes the employee share of CPP/CPP2 and EI. Self-employed income needs a different calculation.
