T2200

T2200 Declaration of Conditions of Employment

The T2200 is the form your employer signs to confirm that your job required you to pay for certain expenses yourself — a home office, supplies, or travel. With a signed T2200 you can claim those employment expenses on your return.

Who signs it, and why you need it

Your employer completes and signs the T2200, certifying the conditions of your employment — for example that you had to work from home or cover your own supplies. You don't file the T2200 with your return, but you keep it: if the CRA reviews your employment-expense claim, that signed form is what backs it up.

How you actually claim the expenses

The T2200 by itself doesn't claim anything. You calculate the deduction on Form T777, Statement of Employment Expenses, and carry the result to your return. Common claims include a portion of home-office costs, supplies you were required to buy, and sometimes vehicle or travel costs — each with its own rules and limits.

The work-from-home note

The temporary flat-rate home-office method from the pandemic years is no longer available. To claim home-office costs now you generally need a signed T2200 and the detailed method, with receipts to support what you claim. If your employer required you to work from home, it's worth asking them for the form.

FAQ

Generally no. Without a signed T2200 you usually can't claim employment expenses, so it's worth asking your employer whether they'll complete one.

No. That temporary method ended. The current route is the detailed method with a signed T2200 and supporting receipts.

It depends on your costs. A required home office or supplies can add up to a meaningful deduction; a small amount may not be worth the paperwork. We can tell you quickly whether it's worth claiming.
